Son of Charles MOINEL, a pupil of violin maker Emile GERMAIN and successor of Nicolas CHERPITEL, Daniel MOINEL began his apprenticeship in Mirecourt under his uncle Louis CHERPITEL. He then came to Paris to perfect his training with his father.

In 1921 he worked for MAUCOTEL & DESCHAMPS, before coming back to his father's workshop in 1922.

In 1934 he settled his own workshop in Paris, rue de Mirosmenil before moving in 1936 to 45 rue de Rome where he stayed all along his professional life.
