Birth : 1818 in Rouvres-La-Chétive (Vosges) Death : 1889 in Neufchâteau (Vosges)

The older son of violin maker François CAUSSIN, Nicolas CAUSSIN learned his craft with his father. He worked with his youngest brother, François Hippolyte CAUSSIN, in his father's workshop at Neufchâteau before going to Paris where he established his own workshop at 1, Place de la Croix Rouge.
He stayed there for some time before returning to Neufchâteau in 1857.

Nicolas CAUSSIN’s nephew, Louis COLLENOT, joined him in 1882.

Like his brother and father, Nicolas CAUSSIN primarily produced instruments inspired by the great Italian makers which were generally crafted in a spirit of imitation.
