Paul Hilaire worked with Georges APPARUT as his main assistant before becoming the partner of Ms APPARUT, after the death of her husband in 1948.
At that time, the firm took the name of "Etablissements APPARUT & HILAIRE" and was producing mostly cellos, but also violins and violas.
HILAIRE initially worked alone, but was eventually able to employ an apprentice and a workman. His production was mainly sold to Japan and the United Sates of America.

Collaborators & successors
When Amédée DIEUDONNÉ  definitely closed his workshop in 1957, Jean EULRY joined Paul HILAIRE and became his first assistant.
At the death of Paul HILAIRE in 1967, Jean EULRY carried on the firm with Miss APPARUT, until his retirement in 1977.
