Birth : 1875 in Mirecourt (Vosges)


Son of a violin maker, he made his apprenticeship in CHIPOT VUILLAUME's workshop. He then went to Paul MANGENOT's. With his brother, Charles, they went to England to work for the HILL brothers, with whom they stayed five years. He went back to Paris where he worked for SILVESTRE & MAUCOTEL and then to Geneva, c 1855. He finally settled his own workshop in Nantes, rue de l'Héronnière.

Awards & medals
In 1926 he won the gold medal as "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (best craftsman of France).

Labels & brands
After his labels, he signed some instruments during his Paris period, using at least two different labels. He still carry on to use one of them in Nantes, scratching "Paris" with a pen and replacing it by "Nantes". Some among his best instruments are signed on the label and stamped to the inside back.
