Victor Joseph CHAROTTE was born in Mirecourt in the middle of the 19th century.

The first violins known to have been built by this maker are dated 1870.

Throughout  his career CHAROTTE was reputed as a major maker and received several distinctions for his work:
1897. Silver Medal.
International Brussels Exhibition.
1890. Silver Medal.
International Paris Exhibition.
1900. Gold medal. International Paris Exhibition.
In 1925, he was bestowed the French diploma of « Meilleur ouvrier de France » (Best French Craftman).

Collaborators and Successors
The CHAROTTE firm, which was founded in Mirecourt in 1721 by Charles François CHAROTTE, lasted for several years after the death of Victor Joseph CHAROTTE, who was succeeded by Georges APPARUT.
