Birth : 1800 in Mirecourt (Vosges) Death : 1872 in Mirecourt (Vosges)

Also known as Nicolas I VUILLAUME.

Son and pupil of Claude François IV VUILLAUME, he is known as Nicolas I.
In 1832, he came to Paris to work with Jean-Baptiste VUILLAUME, his elder brother, where he stayed until 1842.
He then came back to Mirecourt where he developed, beside his own production of quality, the fabrication of the Stentor and Sainte Cécile models.

Collaborators & successors
Around 1865, Auguste DARTE, his son-in-law and collaborator succeeded him at the head of the workshop.

His personal violins, coated with a rich orange-brown or red-brown varnish on a golden ground, are generally stamped on the lowest rib, just over the button.
