Birth : 1818 in Finale Emilia (Modena) Italie Death : 1905 in Modena (Italie)

Giuseppe SGARBI was a violin maker with a strong personality.
To this day, no information is known regarding the maker with whom he completed his apprenticeship.

SGARBI's works, though made after classical models, are distinguished by a personal style which is expressed fully through the modelling of the scroll and his choice of wood.
The best samples are covered in a shiny, transparent, rich orange-red varnish.

From 1840 to 1878 SGARBI worked in Finale Emilia (Modena) before moving
to Rome.
In 1890 he returned to Modena. His last known works are dated 1899.

Collaborators & successors
SGARBI's son and pupil, Antonio, took over his workshop in Rome in 1890 when SGARBI returned to Modena.
