Guillaume GAND was the second son of Charles-Michel GAND, a violin maker who was living in Mirecourt circa 1750, before coming to Versailles in 1780.
He is the brother of Charles François GAND known as "Gand Père”.

Like his brother, Guillaume GAND served his apprenticeship under his father and Nicolas LUPOT, before becoming his father’s collaborator.
At the death of his father, in 1820, Guillaume GAND succeeded him in Versailles where he stayed until his death.
