Birth : 1883 in Mirecourt (Vosges) Death : 1970 in Meru (Oise)

A rare female violin maker.

Daughter, pupil and successor of her father, Paul BAILLY, a former pupil of both Jules GAILLARD and Jean-Baptiste VUILLAUME, Jenny BAILLY began her apprenticeship at the age of twelve and worked with her father until he died in 1907.

BAILLY’s workshop was located at 12 rue Davis in Paris before she moved to Méru (Oise) circa 1935.

BAILLY’s work, inspired by the Italian school, is quite original and can be considered apart from the average production of this period’s French school. She was the only female violin maker of her time.
