Biography

Between 1830 - 1864, three brothers ran a business that produced stringed instruments of the violin family in Saint-Quen-lès-Parey, near MIRECOURT, using the name "GOUDOT - frére et compagnie"(1).

Charles(1791-1864), the oldest, as well as François(1795-1862), the middle brother, known as GOUDOT-MOLOT following his marriage to Mme. Molot, were in charge of the manufacture of the instruments. Louis, the youngest and known as GOUDOT Jeune, managed the shop located at 18 rue Grenetat in Paris from 1845-1847(2). There he sold mainly the instruments received from his brothers at Saint-Ouen-les-Parey(1). To give these instruments a more flattering image, they bear the label "Thierry,Luthier/rue Grenetat 18 a Paris".

In 1848, Louis GOUDOT became a partner with HUSSON-DUCHÊNE at the same address(1).

In 1849, the business became HUSSON-BUTHOD(3), which defined itself as "ancienne maison HUSSON-DUCHÊNE et GOUDOT jeune"(1).

Finally Jerome THIBOUVILLE LAMY Jérôme took over the trademark "Thiery", which would become present in their catalogs as early as 1867.
