Summary

Known as "Albert JACQUOT"

Son and grandson of renowned luthiers, Etienne-Charles-Albert JACQUOT was naturally expected to continue in the family tradition.
Eldest son of Pierre-Charles JACQUOT, he received along with his training as a luthier, a solid middle class education.  Above all a craftsman, he had the chance to experience the flourishing of the Art Nouveau movement in the city of Nancy, which was the laboratory of this important artistic movement in France. He called the region "Lorraine Artist" and he would remain faithful and grateful to it throughout his life.

Biography

Career
At the age of twelve, Albert JACQUOT was sent to Augsburg to perfect his German and study music. Upon completion of his studies, he joined his grandfather Charles JACQUOT in Paris, with whom he began his apprenticeship and was initiated in the study of antique instruments. It was during this stay the he also began studying the violin.

In 1869, at the age of 16, he joined his father's workshop in Nancy to complete his training. He spent a period of time with the Piano manufacturer Erard where he  also trained in the making of this instrument.

Upon returning to Nancy, he collaborated with his father before becoming his associate in 1885. It was at first in this capacity that he participated in various international exhibitions , before exhibiting under his own name in Brussels in 1897. It is interesting to note that throughout the years, besides the violin family and their bows, he would present harpsichords, brass, winds, and other automatons. (2)

Restorer and maker, Albert JACQUOT acquired a great reputation for his instruments made as copies of the old Masters. He was also innovative in introducing the forms of  Art Nouveau symbolism into his creations (3). Among these we find in particular "a cello inlaid with natural wood in half-relief, belonging to H.M. Emperor Nicolas II" as described by Albert Jacquot himself. (1)
