Birth : 1865 in Mirecourt Death : 1937

Biography

Francois CLAUDOT had well known ancestors in string instrument making  with the exception of  his father N Félix 1er. His grandfather, Charles Augustin II , known as the “Marquis de l’air d’oiseau” and his great uncles Nicolas and Augustin as well as his uncle Charles III, were all luthiers.
Albert JACQUOT completed this genealogy by finding the companion title of Charles I, father of Charles II(1).

Francois CLAUDOT apprenticed for 39 months with DARTE in MIRECOURT before joining the workshop of GAND & BERNARDEL Frères, where he worked from January 1884 until January 1886.
He remained faithful to the company’s model except for using a slightly browner varnish than that used by his masters (2).

In 1889, after completing his military service, he settled in Dijon, where he became the head luthier of the Conservatory.
