Birth : 1863 in Poussay (Vosges) Death : 1946 in Poussay (Vosges)

Biography

Louis FRICOT was born on August 19, 1863 in Poussay (1), a village in the district of MIRECOURT. On his birth certificate, it specifies that his father, Ghilbert-Jean FRICOT, was employed as a luthier. (see Iconography)

It is likely that Louis was an apprentice where his father had employment, the workshops of the important firm Jérôme THIBOUVILLE LAMY (2).
We do not know when Louis went from apprentice to Collaborator, but in the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris, he received the silver medal while in the employ of the Thibouville Lamy workshop (3). It is likely that he continued to be employed there in the ensuing years because in 1912 he was appointed Technical Director (4).
In this same year (1912), his name appeared in the JTL catalog under the category “Lutherie Parisienne”. It is also present in future catalogs up until 1955, more than ten years after his death.

Works
There are two different productions bearing the Louis FRICOT labels and brands:
- One of personal workmanship, whose style is close to that of Amédée DIEUDONNÉ. The violin #7423 is a good example of this production.
- The other being a workshop production of fine quality, corresponding to its entry in the catalog of 1912. The violin #3802 presented in our archives being a good example of this production.

Honors and awards
