Biography

Career
Cesare MAGRINI began his apprenticeship in the mid-seventies under his uncle, Primo CONTAVALLI, son of Luigi, both of whom were violin makers in Imola, a city near Bologna.
He then successively joined the workshops of Otello BIGNANI and Ansaldo POGGI in Bologna, Mario CAPICCHIONI  in Rimini and finally Giuseppe LUCCI in Roma.
In 1986 Cesare MAGRINI became a member of the  A.N.L.A.I. ( National Association of Italian Artistic Violinmaking), before joining its board of Experts under Giuseppe LUCCI's direction.

Works
Cesare MAGRINI's work is inspired by the great Classic Italian makers and more specifically by the masters of the Bolognese and Emilian schools such as Augusto POLLASTRI, Giuseppe FIORINI or Ansaldo POGGI.

Stamped to the inside back.
Stamped over the button to the lowest ribs.
Sometimes the upper inside block bears the initials : CM
For his instruments made in a "copy" spirit a mention in ink reading "Omagio a......" (which translates to "In hommage to...) can be read on the upper part of the label.

Honors & awards
Member of the board of experts of the A.N.L.A.I.
Director of the Musical Department of the Babuino auction house in Rome (1990 to 1995).
Author of a biography on Augusto and Gaetano Pollastri (see the bibliography section)
