Biography

Career
Served his apprenticeship with Paul BAILLY before joining his uncle E.A. SALZARD in Moscow.
In 1891, Hippolyte Chretien SILVESTRE asked him to join as foreman his Parisian workshop.
In 1900, they became associated and found the well-known firm SILVESTRE & MAUCOTEL, this association lasted until the death of Hyppolite SILVESTRE in 1913.(1)
After that date he took Paul DESCHAMPS as associate and the firm became MAUCOTEL & DESCHAMPS.
Ernest MAUCOTEL died 26 November 1960 in Taverny, (Seine et Oise), and Paul DESCHAMPS in 1963 (2)

Works
Instruments signed by SILVESTRE & MAUCOTEL are generally inspired from the Italian School and particularly after the Venetian masters as Sanctus Seraphin, Montagnana or Gofriller.
