Career
Little information is available about this maker, and we do not know under whom he served his apprenticeship.
Albert JACQUOT mentions that THIRIOT married in MIRECOURT in 1778.
René VANNES stated that Joseph THIRIOT founded a workshop in MIRECOURT in 1775, which developed over the years and remained active up until the 20th century, through MAGNIÉ'S firm and later LABERTE & MAGNIÉ.

Works
The THIRIOT production presents differences in quality between instruments, which is typical of MIRECOURT workshops.

Label & stamps
Joseph THIRIOT's instruments can bear, on the outside back, two different stamps which reads :
TIRIOT/A PARIS.
or
THIRIOT /A LA VILLE DE CREMONE
These stamps can as well be found on the inside back of the instrument.

Of course nothing in the work of THIRIOT can confirm that he worked in Paris.
The use of such stamps was common in MIRECOURT at the time.
Others, such as CHAPPUY or Didier NICOLAS Ainé similarly engaged in this practise.
