Birth : 1954 in Roma (Italia)

Biography

Formation
As indicated by the certificates of authenticity, Ausonia Del BROCCO trains under Master Primo CONTAVALLI in Imola. The city is renowned for its luthiers and Primo, son and pupil of Luigi CONTAVALLI, is one of its eminent representatives.
In 1980, having completed her training, Ausonia settles in Bologna, at 6 Via di Jola and 28 Via de' Coltelli. (1)
In 1995, while her work is recognized and appreciated, she is forced to cease her activity due to joint problems in her hands related to the practice of violin making. (2)

Works
Differing from her master, whose instruments are freely inspired by STRADIVARI and GUARNERI, Ausonia Del BROCCO works mainly from the models of Gaetano SGARABOTTO, a 20th century Italian luthier known for the power and brilliance of his violins. She produces faithful copies, notably after a 1941 violin, such as this violin dated 1986 presented on our site (4915)

While Ausonia differs from CONTAVALLI in her choice of models, we find in her work the qualities of precision and mastery that have made the reputation of this master. (1)
From her production, some of the most accomplished instruments are stamped and sometimes decorated with a gold ADB monogram. A practice she owes to Master Otello BIGNAMI, a dear friend, living and working in Bologna at the time when Ausonia resided in this city.

To date, we know only violins from her production.
