Son of Vittorio FORMAGGIA violin maker, Nicolò FORMAGGIA was born January 4,1992 into a family working in the musical instrument field for four generations.

Biography

Career.
Born in 1992 in Crema Italy (24 miles from Cremona), Nicolò entered the International school of Violin Making in Cremona in 2008. He studied violin making under the guidance of Maestro Aromatico and restoration with M. Voltini and M. Amighetti. In this same time period, he also attended a course on the art of varnish retouching given by M Ortona of J & A Beare London.

Graduating in 2012 with his Diploma "Maestro Liutaio" did not stop Nicolo from continuing his education with a course in 2013 on Violin setups with special attention given to violin acoustics/physics functions. Working under Maestros Primon, Osio, Montanari, Ortona, Nicolo studied all aspects of violin making from chemistry to varnishing. Other master luthiers influencing him include M. Andrea Shudtz in Cremona and M. Filippo Fasser in Brescia where he won a scholarship for best student.

Works
Violins are made on either a 1689 Stradivarius model, Guarneri del Gesu "Cannone" or the "ex Kreisler. Other models can be made on request.
According to Italian tradition, his instruments are made of Balkan maple and Italian spruce, using seasoned and the finest quality materials. Varnish applied by hand in the traditional manner, is made from a personal recipe.
