Biography

Career
Georges DEROUX completed his apprenticeship under Honoré DERAZEY.
In 1846 he established himself in MIRECOURT where he ran a veritable school of violin making training. Numerous violin makers, including Alfred Ebsworth HILL, where trained under his direction.(1)

Around 1875, Georges DEROUX became involved in the "Union des travailleurs", a workers production cooperative created by JJ MARTIN in MIRECOURT. Here DEROUX was in charge with the production of instruments. (2)
Ii is likely that DEROUX met Emile MENNESSON ther, and also trained him in the art of violin making.
According to René VANNES,  MENNESSON move his workshop to Reims in 1880, followed by Georges DEROUX. (1).
This account is disputed by Rolland TERRIER woh states that all MENNESSON’s instruments were made in MIRECOURT.
