Biography

Francois Vincent CABASSE, son of Maurice CABASSE, serinette maker, and Marie Anne DEMAY, was born in MIRECOURT on March 11, 1796 into a family whose activity in the field of instrument making extended over five generations.
Among the activities of the family there were wood and instrument merchants, organ and serinette (birds organ) makers, wood turners and luthiers, not to mention a few music teachers (1).

The production of Francois CABASSE is little known and should not be confused with other makers of the family particularly that of his nephew Prosper CABASSE.

Once married Francois associated his name with that of his wife ,GOVIOT, a common practice in MIRECOURT.

Francois died in MIRECOURT on September 4, 1867.
