Biography

 

Career
Vittorio Formaggia was born February 23, 1960 into a family that already had been working in the field of musical instruments for 3 generations, with the focus of his family being with the Piano. At an early age, Vittorio saw the violins belonging to a friend of his father and decided to become a violin maker. (1)

 He enrolled at the age of 14 in the International School of Violin Making in Cremona in 1974 , graduating in 1978 under the guidance of Maestros Morassi and Scolari. He has participated in numerous national and international competitions winning 2nd prize in both the competition of young luthiers of Bagnacavallo in 1982 for violin and the lutherie competition of 1988 for cello.

Vittorio lives and works in Crema(province of Cremona) where he makes instruments of the classical string quartet family as well as Baroque instruments in the studio he opened in 1979. His son Nicolo, a graduate of the Cremona school in 2012 has joined him in this workshop.(1)
